Privacy Policy
This policy explains what information MapDice collects when you visit this website and play its games, MapDice and Empire Tap, why we collect it and what you can do about it. We collect as little as we can: you can play without an account, and we never sell your data. Last updated: 10 October 2026.
Who we are
This website and its games are run by MapDice. For any question about your data, or to use your rights, write to [email protected]. We aim to answer within 30 days.
Data stored only in your browser
To remember your settings, the site saves a few items in your own browser (local storage): your player name and avatar, your language, sound and music settings, your MapDice statistics and daily streak, your cookie choice and a random player identifier. This information stays on your device and is not sent to us unless you play online. You can delete it at any time by clearing your browser's site data.
Data we store when you play online
When you create or join a MapDice online room, our servers receive your random player identifier, your player name and avatar, and your moves, so that the other players can see the game. A room is kept while it is in use and then deleted. When a game finishes, we keep a short record of it: the date, the language, the city and route, the players' names and identifiers, and the results. We also keep simple statistics per player identifier (games played, wins, first and last game) and the results you post in the daily challenge, which appear on its public leaderboard with your name and avatar.
In Empire Tap, you play as a guest with a random identifier or sign in with Google. If you use Google Sign-In, Google tells us your email address, your name and your profile picture; your email is used only to recognise your account and is never shown to other players, who only see a coded identifier. We store your commander name, avatar and colour, your lands (their place on the map, shape, size, name, emblem and the links you add), your gold, missions, purchases, clan and trophies, the attacks between lands, the reports you send us, and the friend who invited you, if any. If you turn on notifications, we also store the technical address your browser gives us to send them.
What other players can see
Some things are public by nature of the games: your player or commander name, your avatar, your results on leaderboards, and in Empire Tap your lands, their names, emblems and links, your clan tag and the attacks you make. Do not put personal information in names, titles or links.
Cookies and visit statistics
We use Google Analytics to understand how the site is used, for example which pages and games are popular. It only runs after you click Accept on the cookie notice, and it sets cookies that identify your browser to Google. It records the pages you visit, your device and browser, an approximate location and the game events we send, such as a game started or a land founded. If you decline, no analytics cookies are set. You can change your mind by clearing the site's data in your browser, which shows the notice again.
Other services your browser contacts
To work, the pages load content from other companies, which receive your IP address and basic browser information: Google (map images, fonts, sign-in and analytics), OpenStreetMap services such as Overpass and OSRM (street and route data), unpkg (map and geometry code for Empire Tap), Iconify (icons), DiceBear (avatar pictures) and Gravatar (a default picture). The sharing buttons open the social network you choose, under its own rules. Each of these services has its own privacy policy.
Why we use your data
We use your data to run the games (rooms, lands, leaderboards and notifications), to keep them fair and safe (preventing cheating and abuse, handling reports), to remember your settings, and, only with your consent, to measure how the site is used. The legal grounds are the performance of the service you ask for, our legitimate interest in keeping the games secure, and your consent for analytics.
How long we keep it
Browser data stays until you delete it. MapDice rooms are deleted when they end; game records and statistics are kept as long as the service runs, unless you ask us to delete them. Empire Tap accounts and lands are kept while they exist in the game: lands destroyed in war disappear, and seasons may reset the map. Server logs, which may include IP addresses, are kept for a short time for security. Google Analytics keeps its data for up to 14 months.
Your rights
You can ask us to access, correct or delete your data, to stop processing it or to receive a copy. Write to [email protected] and tell us your player name and, for Empire Tap, the email you sign in with. Personal data is protected under Moroccan Law 09-08, overseen by the CNDP, and visitors in the European Union also have the rights given by the GDPR, including complaining to their local data protection authority.
Children
The games are made for a general audience and are not directed at children under 13. If you are under 13, ask a parent before playing online or signing in. If you believe a child has given us personal data, contact us and we will delete it.
Security and changes
Our servers use encrypted connections and access to the data is limited. No system is perfectly secure, so please use a name that does not reveal who you are. We may update this policy when the games change; the date at the top shows the latest version.
This policy is translated into many languages. If a translation differs from the English version, the English version applies.
