What if a classic board game left the cardboard behind and moved onto the streets of a real city? That is MapDice. It plays like the family race games you know, but the board is a real map: real avenues, real roundabouts, real shortcuts. You can open it in any browser, on a phone or a computer, and start a race in seconds. It is free, there is nothing to download and you do not need an account.

How a race works

Every player has four characters waiting at START, and they all want to reach the same DESTINATION somewhere across town. On your turn you roll two dice, and their total becomes a real distance on the road network. Then you pick which of your four characters drives. The first player to bring all four characters home wins. Roll a double and you play again, so a lucky turn can change everything.

Choose your roads, not just your luck

Dice decide how far you go, but you decide where. At every intersection the game stops and asks you which way to turn. The shortest road is not always the best one: a quieter street can keep you away from rivals, while a bold shortcut can put you right behind the leader. And if you land on a rival character, you overtake it or send it all the way back to START. Planning your route is what turns a lucky race into a win.

Road events and power-ups

The streets are full of surprises that you only discover by driving over them. A nitro boost pushes you further, the police can end your move on the spot, a traffic jam makes the whole road cost double, and roadworks close a street so you must find another way. Crates hold items: fire a rocket at a rival, freeze a character for a turn, drop oil or spikes on your road, or raise a shield against the next attack.

Play solo, with friends or in the daily challenge

You can race against three robots that each have their own driving style, pass one phone around the table with up to three friends, or create an online room and send the link to people anywhere in the world. Every day there is also a daily challenge: the same city and the same route for everyone, with a leaderboard to see who was fastest. You can even pick your own city and race through the streets you know by heart.

Why players keep coming back

Every game is different because every city is different. A race in Paris does not feel like a race in Tokyo, Cairo or your own neighbourhood. Games are short enough for a coffee break, the rules fit in one minute, and the mix of luck and route planning keeps every turn exciting until the very last character crosses the line.
